Gum Diseases| Causes, Types and Treatment



Do you know that how much healthy gums are important? These keep your teeth firm and secure at their place. These should not bleed during brushing. These should be pink. This is sign of healthy gums.

Gum diseases are very common among adults. These are caused of teeth lose. It can be treated if diagnosed at its initial stage.

Causes
Main cause of gum disease is plaque. When you don’t clean your teeth after eating then bacteria form a layer which is called plaque. If it remained unclean then it is converted into hard layer that is called tarter. So to prevent gum diseases it is necessary to remove plaque daily by brushing and flossing.

Types
Main types of gum diseases are gingivitis, periodontitis.
  • Gingivitis 
Inflammation of gums is called gingivitis. It is mildest form of gum diseases. In this condition gums become red and swollen. Normally you don’t feel any severe pain. Some time you feel little discomfort.
  • Periodontitis
If gingivitis is left untreated then it is converted into periodontitis. Bacteria produce toxin which irritates the gums.  Bones and tissues become weaken and broken down. Further it creates spaces between teeth which ultimately lead to teeth loss.

Signs
There are many signs of gum diseases. Most common are;

  • Bleeding from your teeth
  • Swollen and red gums
  • Bad taste in mouth
  • Difficulty in eating due to loose teeth
  • Painful chewing
  • Sensitive teeth
Treatment
If you find any of these signs then visit to your dentist as soon as possible. It’s better to treat it at initial stage. If left untreated at early stage then may be lead to serious loss. Initial disease can be overcome by taking proper oral hygiene. Brush your teeth at least twice a day. Your dentist may let you know the proper cleaning technique that will remove plaque from your teeth. But in severe cases you may need non-surgical or surgical treatment. This treatment will be carried out by professionals. So be careful if you feel any signs of gum disease then treat it as soon as possible. Once it is converted into periodontitis then it can not cure. But it can be control. So always care your teeth.
